MIDA Visit to SunMed Residence CLQ | Setting New Benchmarks in Workers’ Accommodation

On August 12th, 2025, had the honour of welcoming representatives from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) to SunMed Residence, our managed Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ) in Subang Jaya. The delegation was led by Dato’ Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Investment Promotion and Facilitation, joined by Mrs. Salina Mohd Salim, Deputy Director, Industry Talent Management & Expatriate Division, and Mr. Muhammad Syazwan Mohamed Rusli, Assistant Officer, Industry Talent Management & Expatriate Division.

This visit reflects the strong alignment between public and private sectors in advancing Malaysia’s workforce accommodation standards. It follows earlier discussions between MIDA and DORMS on how high-quality Purpose-Built Workers’ Accommodation (PBWA) and CLQs can play a pivotal role in supporting industrial growth, workforce stability, and national economic objectives.

A Modern Standard for Worker Accommodation

Located in Subang Jaya’s bustling industrial corridor, SunMed Residence CLQ is designed to provide safe, comfortable, and well-managed living environments for workers, including those from the hospitality sector. Beyond meeting operational needs, it offers facilities that enhance the overall quality of life for residents, from secure housing to clean communal areas and accessible amenities.

Under Act 446, worker housing in Malaysia must meet specific requirements for space, sanitation, safety, and amenities. While compliance is essential, DORMS goes beyond these statutory benchmarks. Every CLQ we manage is built with a focus on comfort, dignity, and operational efficiency, ensuring that both local and international talents, particularly those supporting the service and hospitality industries can live and work productively.

As Malaysia’s tourism and service sectors expand, providing quality housing for hospitality workers is becoming an essential part of sustaining growth, enhancing service standards, and attracting global talent to the country.

Beyond Compliance: Investing in People

At DORMS, exceeding compliance is more than a point of pride: it’s a strategic investment in people. Quality housing is an investment in the workforce, directly influencing retention, morale, and productivity. Our operational model covers end-to-end management, including site planning, regulatory compliance, daily facility operations, and proactive maintenance.

This visit provided an opportunity to showcase how our approach meets the long-term needs of employers by catering to non-professional, semi-professional, and professional talent alike. By creating a stable living environment, we help industries attract and retain skilled workers in an increasingly competitive market.

MIDA

The presence of MIDA leadership at SunMed Residence highlights the importance of collaboration in shaping Malaysia’s industrial future. MIDA’s role in facilitating investments, connecting stakeholders, and aligning projects with national priorities complements our commitment to creating workforce housing solutions that are sustainable, compliant, and future-ready.

As Malaysia advances its industrial development agenda, the demand for high-quality, compliant, and future-ready worker accommodation will only grow. Good worker housing is more than a compliance requirement; it is a statement of values. For us, it represents the foundation for workforce retention, safety, and sustainable business growth. The MIDA visit to SunMed Residence CLQ serves as both a recognition of our commitment and a reminder that public-private partnerships are essential in building a resilient and competitive Malaysia.
